During 9th-11th May 2017, International Forum on Advancing Forensic Science and Technology & Conference of Editorial Board Members of Forensic Science and Technology launched in Beijing, supported by Institute of Forensic Science (IFS), Ministry of Public Security and National Engineering Laboratory for Forensic Science. General Director ZHAO Qiming attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. LIU Yao, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, WANG Guiqiang, WEN Daojun and YE Jian, Deputy Directors of IFS attended the opening ceremony. Around 100 participants attended the conference including editorial board members, reviewer editors of Forensic Science and Technology (FST) and experts of National Engineering Laboratory for Forensic Science. Four foreign academic counselors were invited to the conference as well, namely professor Robert Anderson from British, professor Joseph Almog from Isreal, professor Heesun Chung from Korea and Professor David Ranson from Australia. The Opening Ceremony was hosted by Deputy-director WEN Dao Jun. General Director ZHAO Qiming mentioned in the opening remarks that forensic science can be considered as a technique sword which can fight against crimes, keep society safe and stable, playing an irreplaceable role in digging evidence, verifying the facts, providing litigation evidence. FST is a comprehensive academic periodical published both at home and abroad, run by China Institute of Forensic Science, and supervised by Ministry of Public Security, which is the most comprehensive and influential academic periodical here in China. FST has always been sticking to the aim of directing development, improving innovation, and serving practical, committed to provide a professional, opening, sharing academic exchange platform. Mr. ZHAO emphasized three suggestions. The first one is adapting to the new situation and meeting requirement to promote the development of forensic science. The second one is taking maximum advantage of the connecting role to make further communication in forensic science. The third one is sticking to run well the magazine and making it a world top journal. Experts from domestic and overseas gathered to share technical fruits in the sphere of forensic science. 8 distinguished guests presented extraordinary reports to all participants during the conference. Including Insight Through the 30-years of China’s Forensic DNA researches and Practice, Post-mortem Imaging in Death Investigation, Summary of Forensic Toxicology, Predicting Human Externally Visible Traits from DNA : Researches and Evolution in Forensics, Analysis and Interpretation of Amphetamine-type Stimulants in Drug Testing, A Method to Test Diatom Enriched onto a Film: Setting-up and Utilization, Technology of Origin-depicting from Evidential Materials and Its Forensic Application, Summary of Forensics as a Proactive Science, covering heated research topics and difficulties in forensic sciences. At the afternoon of 11th May, Mr. LIU Yao delivered work report on behalf of Editorial-Board, made a brief review on the development of FST in past 41 years and introduced the important roles of forensic science in serving practical, technical innovation, personnel training and forensic science dissemination. A comparison between FST and other corresponding academic periodicals was mentioned in Mr. LIU Yao’s address, the prospects of FST were illustrated as well. Researcher QUAN Yangke analyzed some common issues in FST refereeing. At last, participants shared ideas and views of FST development and posted many cherish advices and suggestions. The conference achieved a successful ending with the preparatory group’s meticulous organization and supports from all participants. The conference will definitely make an effective promotion for the development of forensic science and FST.
